Tiến Lên is a shedding game for 2 to 4 players. Everyone gets 13 cards. Beat the play on the table or pass. First to empty their hand takes the win, last one holding cards takes the loss. Simple to learn, ruthless to master.

How a hand goes The 3 of spades opens the first hand. Play singles, pairs, triples, straights, pair runs or four of a kind. Each play has to beat the one before it with the same shape and a higher top card. Cannot beat it? Pass and sit out the trick. When everyone passes, the last player to play leads with anything they like.

Bombs and chops 2s are the highest cards in the game, and the only ones that can be chopped. Four of a kind or a run of three pairs chops a single 2. A run of four pairs chops a pair of 2s and beats four of a kind. Chops pay points on the spot, and a chop on a chop pays even more.

Instant wins Dealt four 2s, a straight from 3 to Ace, five pairs in a row, six pairs or three triples in a row? The hand ends before anyone plays and you collect from the whole table.

Points that follow the table 1st +2, 2nd +1, 3rd -1, 4th -2. Every 2 left in a losing hand costs extra, red 2s double. Bombs left unplayed cost more. Finish last without ever playing a card and your penalty doubles. Scores carry from hand to hand for as long as the table stays open, so the rematch always matters.
